ChatLab
ChatLab is a free, open-source, local-first chat history analysis tool.
In the digital era, chat histories are no longer just plain text. They carry a decade of social connections, precious voice notes from loved ones, and the emotional memory we keep in the digital world.
ChatLab was built to give everyone a private, secure way to analyze and revisit their own conversations.
What You Can Do with ChatLab
- Visual analytics: Word frequency, word clouds, activity rankings, interaction heatmaps, and time-of-day breakdowns help you understand your chat history at a glance.
- AI chat: Connect an AI model and use natural language to search, summarize, and analyze your conversations with an AI Agent.
- Privacy first: Chat data is stored and analyzed locally by default. When you enable AI, only the processed content needed for the current question is sent to the model provider you configure.
- What's next: ChatLab aims to become the standard infrastructure for social memory—preserving the story of each relationship and serving as a local interface through which AI Agents understand your social world. See the Roadmap.
Supported Chat Platforms
ChatLab currently supports importing chat records from QQ, WhatsApp, LINE, Discord, Instagram, Telegram, and iMessage. Prepare the files using the Export Chat Records guide, then import them directly into ChatLab.
If your platform is not yet supported, export the chat records first and use the official AI Conversion Skill to convert them into ChatLab Format. The converted files can then be imported normally.
